Faith, Film & a Baylor Friendship
What happens when two Baylor grads reunite to chase a creative dream? You get Parable—an award-winning Christian film born from a friendship that began more than two decades ago on Baylor’s campus.
Ritchey Cable (BBA ’00) and Kelli Stuart (BA ’00) never lost touch after graduation. Their Baylor bond, forged through late-night study sessions, shared creative ambitions, and formative writing classes, stayed strong through the years. In 2021, their paths crossed again in a new way when Ritchey’s first screenplay, The Author, was picked up by Walker Cable Productions. Kelli was cast in a supporting role, and the film—also starring Baylor alum Clint Harp (BBA ’00)—was released in Texas theaters in 2022 and is now available on Amazon Prime and Apple TV.
The momentum continued in 2023 with Parable, Ritchey’s second feature film. He stepped into the role of writer and director, while Kelli took on the role of executive producer and again appeared in a supporting role. The film has been met with critical acclaim, winning Best Picture at both the Prison City Film Festival and Influx Magazine Awards. It has been selected for major festivals such as the Gasparilla International Film Festival and the Kansas City Film Festival, and it’s nominated for five awards at the prestigious International Christian Film Festival in Orlando.
For both filmmakers, the seeds of their storytelling journey were planted at Baylor. “Writing for the Popular Market was the class that most inspired me,” Kelli recalls. “It was the first time I realized being a writer was a realistic and tangible goal. What I learned in that class has carried me through 25 years of writing in the fiction and nonfiction market.”
Ritchey points to Feature Film Writing with Brian Elliot as a defining moment in his creative career. “That class helped me truly understand cinematic story structure,” he says. “Brian, along with Michael Korpi’s feedback on my screenplay, set me on a trajectory to pursue filmmaking.”
From college classrooms to the film festival circuit, Kelli and Ritchey’s story is a testament to the power of enduring friendship, shared faith, and the creative spark Baylor helped ignite. With Parable, they’re not just telling a story—they’re living one. From college all-nighters to film sets, their Baylor bond continues to shine.
Updated Jan. 20, 2026: Parable continues to build momentum. Released Jan. 8 through Angel Studios, the film reached No. 5 on the platform and has remained in the Top 10, with strong rental performance on Amazon.
