We’re proud to announce the 2026 recipients of the Rev. Robert Gilbert and Mrs. Barbara Walker Distinguished Achievement Awards:
Dr. Mark A. Brown is a nationally recognized leader whose career has spanned military service, federal education policy, and higher education. As the 10th President and CEO of Tuskegee University, he has championed educational access, student success, and social mobility. His commitment to public service and expanding opportunities for future generations reflects the leadership, impact, and servant-hearted dedication celebrated by the Distinguished Achievement Award.
Dr. Michael McFarland has dedicated his career to transforming educational opportunities for students and communities. As superintendent of Crowley ISD, he has led remarkable academic growth, expanded resources, and strengthened one of North Texas' fastest-improving school districts. Through his leadership in public education and service to national education organizations, he continues to champion excellence, equity, and student success.
Dr. Orhue Odaro is making a lasting impact in medicine through exceptional patient care, clinical leadership, and the mentorship of future physicians. Her dedication to serving both her profession and her community exemplifies the leadership and service celebrated by the Distinguished Achievement Award.
Sophia Young-Malcolm has built a legacy of excellence on and off the court. A Baylor Women's Basketball standout and former WNBA All-Star, she has devoted her life to mentoring young people through athletics, ministry, and leadership. Whether developing student-athletes, serving in her community, or sharing her faith with youth and college students, she exemplifies the leadership, service, and lasting impact celebrated by the Distinguished Achievement Award.
