Sophia Young-Malcolm (BSEd '06)

Sophia Young-Malcolm has built a legacy of excellence through athletics, leadership, ministry, and service. A Baylor University alumna, former WNBA All-Star, and passionate mentor, she has dedicated her life to inspiring others to pursue their God-given purpose both on and off the court.

A standout member of Baylor's women's basketball program, Sophia earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in physical education from Baylor University in 2006. She later earned a Master of Science in clinical psychology from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Arts in Christian ministry from Liberty University, reflecting her lifelong commitment to personal growth and serving others.

Following her collegiate career, Sophia was selected by the San Antonio Stars in the 2006 WNBA Draft and went on to enjoy an accomplished professional basketball career. During her time in the WNBA, she was a three-time All-Star, a two-time All-Defensive Team selection, and an All-Rookie Team honoree. She also competed internationally with Turkey's Galatasaray, helping the club capture a FIBA EuroCup championship, and was a finalist for the United States Women's Olympic Team. After retiring from professional basketball in 2015, she was nominated for the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 2021.

Sophia has continued to invest in the next generation through coaching, mentorship, and leadership development. She previously served as assistant director for player development with Baylor Women's Basketball, where she supported student-athlete development, recruiting, and collaboration with the Baylor Student-Athlete Center for Excellence. She has also served as a real estate professional with Kingdom Living Realty, LLC, and founded Sophia Young Elite Basketball to mentor and develop young athletes.

Today, Sophia serves as a speaker with USA Youth Outreach, an organization dedicated to sharing the Gospel with youth, college students, and communities around the world. Through her ministry, she encourages others to live lives of faith, purpose, and service while equipping young people to become leaders in their own communities.

Sophia and her husband, Jermaine Malcom, are passionate advocates for faith, family, and leadership. Together they co-host the Relationships and Reasons podcast, where they share honest conversations about marriage, faith, family life, and building strong foundations for the future. They are the proud parents of two children, Skye and Sevyn.
