Dr. Mark Brown has dedicated his career to leadership, public service, and expanding educational opportunity. As the 10th President and Chief Executive Officer of Tuskegee University—and the first alumnus to serve in that role—he brings decades of experience in military leadership, higher education, and federal service to one of the nation's most historic institutions.

A graduate of Tuskegee University, Dr. Brown earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting before continuing his education with a Master of Public Administration from Troy University, a Master of Strategic Studies from the Air Command and Staff College, a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National War College, and a Doctor of Education from Baylor University in 2022. His lifelong commitment to learning reflects his belief in education as a catalyst for leadership and service.

Commissioned through the Tuskegee University Air Force ROTC program in 1986, Dr. Brown served with distinction in the United States Air Force for more than three decades, retiring as a Major General after 32 years of service. Throughout his military career, he held leadership positions at every level of the Department of Defense, including assignments as a congressional liaison to the U.S. House of Representatives and Chief Financial Officer for Air Force Materiel Command, where he oversaw a portfolio exceeding $60 billion. His service also took him around the world, including assignments in the Philippines, Spain, England, Turkey, and Iraq.

As Deputy Commander of Air Education and Training Command, Dr. Brown helped lead one of the Air Force's largest organizations, overseeing the recruitment, education, and training of Air Force personnel worldwide. His command included Air University and the Air Force Institute of Technology, reinforcing his longstanding commitment to developing future leaders through education.

Following his military retirement, Dr. Brown continued his service as Chief Operating Officer for the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Federal Student Aid. In that role, he oversaw the nation's Title IV student aid programs and managed a $1.7 trillion federal student loan portfolio, helping millions of students and families access higher education.

Today, Dr. Brown leads Tuskegee University with a vision rooted in academic excellence, innovation, and opportunity. His distinguished career reflects an unwavering commitment to servant leadership, educational access, and preparing future generations to make meaningful contributions to their communities and the world.
