About Our Speaker
A two-sport standout from nearby Gatesville, Texas, Ricky Thompson swept the indoor and outdoor Southwest Conference championships in the long jump in 1975 and 1976 and was part of Baylor’s SWC championship football team as a wide receiver in 1974.
Drafted in the 8th round of the 1976 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts, Ricky played seven years in the NFL with the Colts, Washington Redskins and St. Louis Cardinals before retiring in 1982. He was inducted into the Baylor Athletics Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame in 2017.
Joining the Baylor Football radio crew in 2000, Ricky spent the past 26 seasons as the sideline reporter for the Bears, providing amazing insight for more than 300 consecutive games, before stepping away from the mic after the 2025 season.
