The Hunters’ Living Legacy at Baylor

Forty-five years ago, Shirley (BS ’79) and Steve (BBA ’80) Hunter’s Baylor story began under the shade of magnificent live oaks near Carroll Library, a place where they dreamed about their future together.

From cheering at Homecoming parades to mentoring more than 30 Baylor students who came to call them their “Baylor Mom and Dad,” the Hunters’ connection to campus and the Baylor Family grew deep roots.

Before his passing, Steve envisioned planting trees on campus to honor his parents, A A (Bud) and Ruth Hunter, who had supported his Baylor journey. Together, Shirley and Steve expanded that dream, creating a living tribute that now honors Steve, his parents, and the many Baylor students who became like family.

Along the “I Believe” walkway across from the Grant Teaff Plaza, these trees stand as a symbol of faith, love, and enduring Baylor spirit — "where roots grow and flourish."
