Brian Benson (BS ’05)

Brian Benson (BS ’05) is a fellowship-trained reconstructive foot and ankle surgeon with advanced expertise in complex lower extremity procedures. His clinical focus includes total ankle joint replacement, external fixation, limb lengthening, minimally invasive surgery, trauma care, and deformity correction in both adult and pediatric patients.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Baylor University in 2005. Before entering medical school, Brian completed two graduate degrees at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth: a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences (2009) and a Master of Public Health with a concentration in Health Management and Policy (2010).

Dr. Benson received his medical degree from Barry University in Miami, Florida (2017), and completed a comprehensive surgical residency at Northwell Health in Staten Island, New York (2020). He then pursued a specialized fellowship in orthoplastics and deformity correction in Georgia (2021).

Since 2021, Dr. Benson has served as an attending surgeon at Beauregard Health System in DeRidder, Louisiana. In addition to his clinical work, he is an orthopedic device consultant and design surgeon for several implant companies, with multiple devices currently in use nationwide. His academic contributions include numerous publications and national lectures, and he was recently appointed Associate Professor at the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine – Monroe Campus.

Passionate about mentorship and representation in medicine, Dr. Benson has been a panelist and moderator for UNT’s Black Men in White Coats Youth Summit since 2023, helping to inspire and guide underrepresented minority students toward careers in healthcare.
